What is Graffiti?
Graffiti is a type of writing, drawing, or simply markings that are commonly seen on walls or on city sidewalks. Now, the word itself is derived from the Greek word graphein, which means "to write".For some people, graffiti is a type of serious vandalism and is considered as nothing more than just a waste of time. The word vandalism comes from the Barbarian group, who sacked Rome, know as "the Vandals". Though the idea of graffiti has been frowned upon for centuries,in today's realm it's becoming more accepted as a specific art form. Despite this, there will always be a differing of opinions when it comes down to graffiti as art vs. defacement. Which side will you take?
Graffiti Through My Eyes
I have always been fascinated by graffiti and its social struggle between
vandalism and art. Everyone has been touched by graffiti whether its been seen
through its permanence as an infrastructure in big cities or tiny tags in local
regions. Graffiti has history and an emotional meaning for it's artists. It is
an artistic statement piece that is a part of the urban experience, which takes
talent. Some consider is wrong where others are driven to produce works of
graffiti despite it's potential ill-consequences.
