If you’re a fan of art and graffiti prepare to get your mind blown. The “Watchmen Premiere Aerosol Graffiti Time-lapse Video” demonstrates what it means to produce aerosol art. This video was uploaded to YouTube on April 18th 2009. It is a promo video commissioned by Paramount for the UK West end movie premiere of the 2009 film, “Watchmen” directed by Zack Snyder. The aerosol art is executed by 'End of the line' artists: Bleach, Probs, Busk and Zadok. The time-lapse is longer than the average music video and this shines light on how time consuming a process this is. The artists produce 6 consecutive pieces during the 5 minute feature. Watching the first 30 seconds will have you hooked. Each new piece depicts a different set of characters from the movie, once a piece is finished it is painted over by the next. This is a deliberate shame for each of the pieces created are amazing, lifelike paintings that capture the film’s dark and edgy vibe. You don’t want to see the detailed and captivating drawings covered over. However, replacing one piece with another really adds to the visual intricacy of the time-lapse. There is music throughout the video, produced by Pyro, which also contributes to this edgy vibe while keeping it up-beat. Its electronic stanza keeps the rhythm fresh, engaging you with the art being cast onto the wall. There is a tremendous range of color and layering that is used to give definition to the pieces created. No piece outdoes another for they are all fantastic representations of the films characters and scenes.
This video bears witness to the process of creating aerosol art as well as its mind-blowing final product. It will leave you in wonder at how the artists use spray paint to create these detailed pieces. These artists deserve the attention and respect of the public.
